Anthropic confirms Claude subscription credits can now power third-party apps and agents
新智元 · wechat · 2026-10-15
On October 7, Anthropic quietly updated its support pages to confirm that Claude Max and Team subscribers' monthly API credits can be spent inside Claude Agent SDK, Claude Code, the Claude API, Managed Agents—and any third-party app built on them. Multiple Anthropic staff confirmed on Hacker News that no extra fees apply.
Ending the double-billing problem
- Previously, users paid for a Claude subscription and then had to pay developers again for API costs in third-party apps, stifling both demand and developer experimentation.
- The new "BYOS" (Bring Your Own Subscription) model lets users' compute draw down from their own plan, dropping third-party developers' compute costs to zero and enabling far more complex agent architectures.
The strategic play
- As competition shifts to the agent ecosystem, Anthropic is betting that the better third-party apps get, the more users need Claude subscriptions—recruiting the global developer community to sell its memberships.
- The piece frames it as an App Store-opening moment for indie developers and startups.
