Dev rewrites OpenCode's server in Rust as lightweight drop-in replacement
microbass · reddit · 2026-10-15
Reddit user microbass released ocserve, a lightweight reimplementation of OpenCode's server. The motivation: the original server consumed a couple GB of RAM and tens of GB of disk, so they wrote a drop-in replacement in Rust.
- Speaks the same HTTP/SSE API, so the OpenCode TUI, web UI, and mobile clients connect unchanged. It reads your existing opencode config and auth read-only and keeps its own database.
- Pinned to the 1.18.31 wire contract. Missing: provider OAuth and share. Linux is the supported target.
- v0.3.1 is on crates.io (cargo install ocserve); MIT-licensed code at github.com/Reliary/ocserve.
