Dev closes all PRs: let agents patch open source via Nix overlays instead
kieranklaassen · x · 2026-10-15
Developer Geoffrey Huntley announced an experimental approach to open source maintenance: closing all pull requests, keeping only issues and discussions. To change his project Kittens, users simply point their coding agent at it and patch the world with Nix overlays, personalizing the code to their own needs rather than contributing upstream.
The idea: in the agent era, contribution shifts from merging into mainline toward everyone forking and patching with agents. The project is MIT-licensed and runs on your own infrastructure. The move sparked discussion about whether agent workflows should reshape open source collaboration itself.
