Stanford CS312: a new deep learning course built around running experiments, materials public
TristanThrush · x · 2026-10-15
Stanford's new Fall 2026 course CS312 "Deep Learning Alchemy," taught by Tatsunori Hashimoto and Suhas Kotha with Tristan Thrush as CA, takes the stance that knowledge alone isn't enough—students must run many experiments. It alternates assignments (running experiments), quizzes testing prediction of held-out experiment outcomes, lectures, and tutorials. A 5-unit class with seven hard quizzes and no inflated curves; all recordings and materials will be public. Attached commentary argues "frontier" alone doesn't make content worthy of a top university.
