The author argues that research judgment in humans is single-threaded — a hidden state shaped by a particular life history — and a truly automated AI researcher will resemble this: a single continuous conversation rather than harness gymnastics.
Harness gymnastics may still matter for exponentially scaling multi-agent simulations and pruning, to train a single-threaded master agent that "lives many lives."
