Obsidian at 30K+ Markdown files: queries in 0.38s, formula views the real bottleneck

dSebastien · x · 2026-10-15

dSebastien shared benchmarks from his 30K+ file Obsidian vault: a movies-by-director query returning 4,874 rows took 0.38s, while an All view with dozens of formulas over 10,160 rows took 6.86s. His conclusion: cost scales with rows times formulas — a useful data point for scaling Obsidian. Full write-up linked with real code.
