Open-source Telegram CLI lets AI agents read and send messages from your own account
artemgetman · reddit · 2026-10-15
Developer artemgetmann open-sourced telegram-user-cli, a standalone MIT-licensed Python CLI that lets AI agents read chats and send messages through your personal Telegram account.
Highlights:
- Built on Telethon, with the transport layer extracted from his OpenClaw fork; no gateway required
- Returns JSON, accepts generated text from file or stdin, and exposes message IDs so agents can verify outcomes
- Supports DMs, replies, and forum topics
- Requires your own Telegram API credentials and a local user session; Codex helped with extraction, packaging, and tests
- Caveat: live sending in this standalone release still needs validation; the demo uses synthetic messages
