Dev ships a Steam game built with Codex and Godot, shares three AI workflow tricks
Consistent_Hat_4557 · reddit · 2026-10-14
A software engineer with no game dev experience built Restore Earth, an incremental cleanup game, using Godot + Codex's new Astra model + MCP, and shared what worked:
- MD template trick: have the AI write the prompt that generated an asset into .MD files; new assets read the file and 'modify' specific parts instead of starting from scratch
- F9 secret debug menu: an in-game modal to unlock the skill tree, add currency, preview animations and biomes — massively speeds up feature review
- Limits of prompting: the skill tree failed across 20+ attempts over days; drawing it in Krita with simple circles and lines got an almost-correct implementation immediately
The game is on Steam for wishlisting.
