Gemma 4 E4B + genomic model BOTANIC-1 pinpoints causal melon yield mutation in one afternoon
remilouf · x · 2026-10-14
AI lab Living Models pairs Gemma 4 E4B with BOTANIC-1, a genomic language model, to speed up climate-resilient crop breeding. Gemma prepares and filters genomic data, feeding candidates to BOTANIC-1, which scores evolutionary impact and pinpoints the causal mutation.
In a recent test, the pipeline identified a target melon yield mutation in an afternoon of computation, ranking it #1 out of 2,494 possibilities — work that traditionally takes years of physical breeding.
