Dev uses Claude to analyze 50,000 live flight trajectories, finds wild anomalies

A developer used Claude to build an anomaly detection pipeline that pulls raw satellite ADS-B transponder telemetry in real time, scanning 50,000 live flight trajectories for violations of standard aviation physics and commercial corridors. Notable finds:
- Barcode Flight: N955LA flew 26 consecutive 180° switchbacks near the Texas border for 2 hours, covering 235 km yet ending just 27 km from its start — an 8.7x detour.
- 7,000-ft plunge: UAL2741 dropped over 7,300 ft in 65 seconds (>7,300 ft/min descent rate) before recovering.
- Ghost orbit: N406LF held tight loops inside a 20 km perimeter for nearly 10 minutes.
- Mach-speed telemetry spikes: multiple targets showed brief erratic speed readings far beyond commercial velocities.
The project is open source (GitHub: Aashvath/skywatch), requires no paid API keys, and launches an interactive browser radar map where each anomaly can be clicked for exact coordinates, descent rates, and turn math.
