Dev slams Python's GC: refcounting plus a bolted-on cycle detector, built like a toy
zack_overflow · x · 2026-10-14
Following his claim that there's zero reason to use Python in 2026, zackoverflow adds a technical jab: Python's garbage collector is built like a toy interpreter project—the authors were too lazy to do GC properly, so they used refcounting and only slapped on a cycle-detection pass after noticing memory leaks. He says he just dealt with a bunch of issues caused by this design.
