NVIDIA's 400G/lane optical spec puts tougher laser demands on CPO
jwt0625 · x · 2026-10-14
Optics engineer jwt0625 dissects NVIDIA's proposed 400G-per-lane optical channel spec (212.5 Gbaud PAM4, RIN down to -151dBc/Hz, FFE+DFE equalization over 500m SMF), arguing that CPO will always demand better lasers — lower RIN and frequency noise, or better wavelength accuracy, or likely both — regardless of which direction lane rates go.
