Zoho Scientist: Server Prices Up 4-5x in a Year, AI Coding Gains Only 25-50% End-to-End

Zoho chief scientist Vembu says AI's end-to-end productivity gain in software development is at best 25%-50% today—prototyping is much faster, but finished products still need lots of human work; the 10x/100x leap hasn't happened yet.
He flags the current challenges:
- Server/memory prices up 4-5x in a year, driven by the massive AI data center buildout
- Per-engineer AI token spending is way up (productivity gains are costly)
- Hosting open-weight models requires expensive GPUs
The thread contrasts Zoho's June launch of its India-built Nathu La inference server (claimed 20-30% lower TCO, 12-18% lower power use) with Vembu's October admission that hardware prices have surged. Revenue is growing, but costs are growing faster.
