Anthropic built its own source control after agent-driven merges hit 30,000/day
rickasaurus · x · 2026-10-14
Anthropic's engineering blog says daily merges exploded from 2,500 in May to 30,000+ in September, overwhelming human-scale infra. In five months the team built a new version control system and fully migrated its monorepo off git. Merge queues make little sense at agent scale—CI is redefined when thousands of changes merge while tests run—so they bet on post-merge and pre-deploy automated testing instead. Concurrent conflicts still happen, but Claude fixes them faster than humans can spot them.
