Codex on Windows fails responses and compaction, blocking long-running conversations
jibe-dev-ship-it · ghdev · 2026-10-12
A user reports that after updating OpenAI's Codex Windows app (26.1007.2314.0), screen crashes stopped but responses and conversation compaction now fail.
- Responses repeatedly end with stream disconnected before completion; remote compaction fails consecutively, and manual compaction also fails.
- The UI simultaneously claims "100% remaining (0 of 828K used)" despite the errors.
- The user has accumulated extensive work context in these sessions and asks OpenAI for a way to resume with history intact, plus a fixed version number and release timing.
- Related earlier issues: #48938 (screen crashes) and #52919 (same version, failing responses and compaction).
