Anthropic merged 30,000 code changes a day, so it built its own version control in 5 months
ronbodkin · x · 2026-10-14
Anthropic details how its merges grew from 2,500/day in May 2026 to 30,000+/day by September, making git the bottleneck. It built Scion, an in-house version control system, and fully migrated its monorepo in five months — plus a code review surface (Antique), code search, and a source control IAM system. Claude both caused the bottleneck and enabled the rapid build. Engineers now steer high-level tradeoffs and often tell Claude 'no' to prevent over-engineering.
