Anthropic built its own source control and migrated off git as merges hit 30K/day

In an engineering blog post, Anthropic revealed that its merged code changes exploded from 2,500 per day in May to over 30,000 per day in September, as AI agents churned out code — bottlenecking developer infrastructure designed for human scale.
Anthropic spent five months building a new version control system and fully migrated its monorepo off git. Engineers across the industry note this reflects a broader shift in how development workflows must adapt to agent-scale coding.
