Anthropic built Scion, dropped git for its monorepo in 5 months as merges hit 30K/day

- Anthropic's merges per day grew from 2,500 (May 2026) to over 30,000 (Sept 2026) as Claude autonomously writes most code; human-scale source control became the biggest dev bottleneck.
- The team built Scion, an in-house version control system, and fully migrated its monorepo off git in five months.
- Alongside it they shipped Antique (code review), code search, a rich source-control IAM system, and new ways to land large volumes of reviewed code.
- The post is a case study of how Claude both caused the growth and enabled building the scalable system quickly.
