Anthropic built Scion, a new source control system, as AI-written code overwhelmed Git
mark_k · x · 2026-10-14
Anthropic's engineering blog reveals that daily merged code changes exploded from 2,500 in May to 30,000+ in September as Claude wrote most of the code, making Git a bottleneck. Seven engineers built Scion — a new source control and code review system — in five months with heavy help from Claude itself: 200x less CPU/memory, 100x faster checkouts, and a 25% CPU capacity win. A sign that dev infrastructure designed for humans needs rethinking at AI-coding scale.
