Solo dev embeds an MCP server in his Mac mail app so Claude works across all inboxes

The solo developer behind bytemail, a native Swift Mac mail client, shipped a built-in MCP server that lets Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or LM Studio operate every account in the app—Gmail, iCloud, Outlook/M365, Fastmail, Yahoo, Proton, any IMAP—solving the common pain of single-account, cloud-routed mail MCPs.

Capabilities: 27 tools covering search (local SQLite index first), threads, attachments, drafts, rules, snooze, unsubscribe, and block. Example prompts: sum invoices across three accounts, draft replies to pending threads, file monthly receipts.

Safety design (took longer than the tools): sending/rules/unsubscribe require explicit approval inside bytemail—the AI can't approve itself; no delete tool; one-time codes and password-reset links are redacted before the model sees them to defeat prompt injection; email content is passed as untrusted data; actions touching >25 conversations ask first. Off by default with per-account opt-in; mail never touches the developer's servers, and pairing with a local model keeps everything on-device.

Pricing: 7-day trial, then $3.99/month, $39.90/year, or lifetime.
