3090 FE VRAM hits 112°C in seconds running LLMs — power cap benchmarks inside
Farmadupe · reddit · 2026-10-13
Testing LLM token generation on a 3090 Founders Edition (Qwen3.8-27B 5.1bpw with MTP, 70% acceptance), the author found VRAM hits 112°C within seconds on Nvidia's stock fan curves — vs. a 96°C continuous rating. Benchmarks show: cap at 270W with 100% fan to stay in spec (240W at 70% fan, 30% throughput loss); undervolting doesn't help since clock offsets only kick in above 300W; 100°C sustained ≈290W, 104°C ≈328W, 108°C ≈535W. Charts included.
