Proposing a 'Millennium Problem of Robotics': ten long-horizon research challenges listed
DJiafei · x · 2026-10-13
The author argues robotics academia should embrace problems that take 5-10 years to solve, proposing a 'Millennium Problem of Robotics.' His list: locomanipulation and whole-body coordination; dexterous contact-rich hand manipulation; force/tactile sensing for perception, learning and control; human-robot interaction; generalization and reliability evaluation protocols; safe sample-efficient real-world RL; long-horizon planning and memory; lifelong learning after deployment; failure detection, recovery and knowing when to ask for help; and hardware-learning co-design. He invites additions.
