Codex Windows browser control broken: MXC launcher fails with HRESULT 0x80070003
Rebolvsk · ghdev · 2026-10-10
- A user reports the OpenAI Codex desktop package (26.1007.2314.0) fails to initialize browser control on Windows 11 Pro (build 26200): calling cua.createBrowserTab crashes the runtime with MXC launcher: cannot locate required Windows platform directory: HRESULT 0x80070003.
- Restarting Chrome and Codex and resetting the CUA runtime doesn't help; PowerShell, read-only file access, and ordinary commands work fine — only browser control is affected. An earlier error read trusted Node process exited unexpectedly.
- The installed package has a valid OpenAI signature and Node runtime components are present; known-folder PowerShell tests resolve fine, but it's unclear whether the failing MXC launch context can resolve them. Root cause unconfirmed.
- The user requests a supported recovery path that preserves sessions and security boundaries. Labeled bug/windows-os/app/browser, with 10 comments.
