Leave the Blank Page Blank: Offloading First Ideas to AI Skips the Thinking That Matters
DrKavner · x · 2026-10-13
A Cerebratech blog post argues writers should keep the blank page uncomfortable — that struggle is the workout.
- Two kinds of offloading: research distinguishes dependent offloading (AI substitutes your thinking) from autonomous offloading (AI extends thinking you already did). For idea generation, the distinction is everything: skip the blank page and you get the output without building the capacity.
- Structural hit to originality: independent human samples produce more diverse ideas than independent LLM samples. That's not a model bug — models trained on statistical likelihood cluster at the center of the distribution, so the weird, off-angle idea is the least likely to emerge.
- Conclusion: a good AI draft still skips the reach-fail-recombine process, and unlike a skipped gym session, you can't measure what you lost.
The post ends with a promo link for the author's "AI audit" service.
