Lightspeed maps robotics landscape on two axes; sees DeployCos as the emerging opportunity layer
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-10-13
Lightspeed partner Amber Yang lays out the robotics industry on a 2x2: models from specific to general, and embodiment from single-form to general-purpose. Examples include Physical Intelligence, Skild AI, Generalist and Reward AI on the general-model side; Figure and 1X for general embodiment; and Dexterity, Tacta, Reflex as specific-model players.
The thesis: as foundation models become more general, value shifts to the deployment layer — 'DeployCos' like Ultra that combine existing models with diverse robot bodies to solve concrete factory and restaurant workloads. The chart is illustrative and non-exhaustive, not a ranking.
