LessWrong: No publicly available consistency proof exists for Lean4
MoonL88537 · x · 2026-10-13
A LessWrong essay notes there is no publicly available proof that Lean4 is consistent relative to ZFC plus any large cardinal axiom. The author initially assumed this was a technicality or bugs, but concludes we don't know why Lean4 should be consistent and all known proof strategies face real obstructions. He also cautions that a Lean proof doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means.
