Solo dev turns old laptops into free security guards with local LLMs via Observer
Roy3838 · reddit · 2026-10-13
Solo dev Roy3838 demoed Observer, a project that repurposes old laptops as home security guards using local LLMs — cutting e-waste with zero cloud cost. In the demo, the model spots a person on camera and fires a 'PERSON DETECTED' alert. Decision-model support is coming soon, the 0.8B OneJev model runs on very weak hardware, and browser-based testing is planned once D3 gains ONNX support.
