538 API ops, only 3 usable tools: what actually breaks OpenAPI-to-MCP conversion
Rodrigocruuz · reddit · 2026-10-13
Riviera converted seven real SaaS OpenAPI docs into agent-callable tools and counted everything: of 538 operations, 124 became tool definitions and only 3 were ready to use. 121 needed decisions no document answers (98 write data — who confirms?; 105 behind bearer tokens of unclear ownership). The most common blocker was mundane: missing/relative/split server addresses, accounting for 160 of 414 failures. An accepted OpenAPI doc is readable, not usable. Small sample, own strict importer, no API calls — read as a list of causes, not a statistic.
