Lanyon uses neurosymbolic AI to rediscover fusion instabilities that killed Z-pinch devices

Lanyon's chief scientist demonstrates using the company's neurosymbolic architecture to autonomously rediscover and analyze fundamental physics problems in magnetic confinement fusion: the sausage instability that killed the Z-pinch device, and the interchange/flute instabilities still plaguing magnetic mirrors.
An accompanying plot (192³ grid, ε=0.01) shows seeded sausage-mode growth followed by kink and higher harmonics taking over, with a measured growth rate γτA=0.107 closely matching the linear eigenmode prediction of 0.122.
The key technical claim: Lanyom's symbolic layer produces formally verified 3D MHD simulations while the neural layer enables flexible AI-driven physics analysis. Future installments will cover field-reversed configurations, tokamaks, and stellarators.
