OpenAI models seem 'lobotomized' on weekdays, developer complains
sterlingcrispin · x · 2026-10-13
Artist-developer Sterling Crispin complains that OpenAI's models perform noticeably worse on Mondays than 24 hours earlier — "the common-sense region of the model has been lobotomized" — ironically noting the 9-5 window is when they're dumbest, and suggesting OpenAI rename weekday vs weekend model versions.
The recurring "weekend lobotomy" complaint is a long-running user grievance, usually speculated to stem from routing, quantization, or load-balancing changes; OpenAI has previously denied intentionally degrading models on weekdays. This is anecdotal observation, not benchmarked evidence.
