SurrealDB launches lock-free in-memory engine SurrealMX: 28.3x faster reads than RocksDB

SurrealDB's launch week introduces SurrealMX, a new lock-free in-memory storage engine: 28.3x faster reads than RocksDB and 17.5x faster than LMDB in memory, plus 6.61x faster updates than LMDB. Benchmarked at 21.51M point reads/sec across 15M keys on a 32-core Threadripper 9970X with 128GB RAM. Key points:
- Reads never write to shared memory, so they keep scaling with cores
- Runs embedded, in the browser, or on a server, with optional disk persistence
- One engine spans document, graph, vector, time-series and relational data
- Up next: Agent Memory, letting agents store memory on the same engine
Blog, reproducible benchmark, whitepaper and open-source repo are available.
