Solo dev builds UE5 farming sim with Claude Code: 680 automated tests and offscreen visual checks

A developer shares their workflow building a Rimworld-meets-Farming-Simulator game in Unreal Engine 5 with Claude Code, porting from a Python prototype system by system over a week (20 milestones so far).
How Claude Code plugs into UE:
- Docs it reads every session: CLAUDE.md pointing to a project 'constitution', code map, decisions log, and one mechanics file per system
- Milestone loop: brief per system → Claude builds → dev playtests and accepts or sends notes
- Game logic is plain C++ with no engine dependencies, so Claude runs 680 automation tests headless
- Visual self-checks: with the editor closed, Claude launches the game offscreen via command-line flags (camera, time of day, UI panel, scripted clicks), saves a PNG and reviews it; via Unreal's MCP server when the editor is open
- Headless map tooling: self-written commandlets and .bat scripts bake walking grids, place buildings, re-seat trees
The human makes design decisions; AI art comes from Sunburst, Seedream 5, Grok first/last frames and Tripo. AI video as Blender modeling reference reportedly works remarkably well.
