Ex-Expo engineer built 'expo:react' built-ins for radically smaller OTA updates
Baconbrix · x · 2026-10-13
A former Expo engineer describes an experimental Expo Go build with dynamically vendored built-ins: import React from 'expo:react' loads from the native binary, skipping JS bundle parsing. Trade-off: no OTA React upgrades, but the result was much smaller JS updates, faster bundling, better dev-mode performance, and saner debugging.
