After a Messy Singapore Trip Split, an Indie Dev Built Trip Split

After a Singapore trip where flights, hotels and meals were paid by different people across Alipay, WeChat, PayPal, VISA and cash, the author settled everything with one Excel sheet and ten formulas — a single transfer cleared all debts.
The real insight: the hard part isn't computing, it's not recording at the moment of payment — bank statements show how much was paid but not on whose behalf. So he built Trip Split, a PWA addable to the home screen with no signup or app install: invitees pick their name via a link, then log their own payments via typing, voice (“dinner €86, I paid, Leo didn't eat”) or receipt photos, with AI-parsed entries shown as confirmation cards before being recorded.
