Tsinghua's VeriLoop E2 commits recursive reasoning states only when externally verified

Tsinghua SIGS researchers (advised by Liu Houde & Zhou Chaonan, postdoc Wang Libo) present VeriLoop E2, tackling a core question in test-time compute: what evidence justifies replacing the current state with a new candidate during recursive reasoning?
Key ideas:
- Separates two permissions: generating a candidate vs. earning the right to persist it
- The VeriLoop-Governed Recurrence (VGR) mechanism injects externally verifiable evidence into state commitment, recursion control, and post-training data construction
- A candidate state is committed only after passing an external verifier's Protected-Improvement Test; otherwise it rolls back
- A zero-rank certificate serves as the stopping condition
Built on Qwen 3.8-27B via post-training, targeting code, math, and physics tasks with externally verifiable constraints — reframing "can the model keep computing" as "can new computation be proven to constitute real progress."
