How WikiVault reshaped Korean Wikipedia: LLM tool boosted output but swamped reviewers
manoelribeiro · x · 2026-10-12
An arXiv study examines WikiVault, an LLM-powered editing tool built within the Korean Wikipedia community for translating English content. Combining ten interviews, platform-scale analysis, and matched quasi-experimental comparisons, the authors find the tool (1) drastically amplified the output of a small group of experienced editors, producing longer, more-viewed articles; (2) shifted work toward reviewing and importing content, creating a growing backlog of unreviewed translations; (3) imported not just content but editorial judgments from English Wikipedia. The community responded by organizing reviews and eventually imposing daily usage limits — showing how commons communities can learn from LLM use in practice and adapt governance along the way.
