LocalLightChat: a lightweight Open WebUI alternative now with Agents, MCP and RAG
PromptInjection_ · reddit · 2026-10-12
LocalLightChat (LLC) is a lightweight chat frontend for local LLMs—no install, no dependencies, runs on ancient hardware—built because Open WebUI felt heavier than the models themselves. After community criticism, it now integrates all three missing pieces:
- An agent system heavily optimized for token efficiency, handling large files even with small context windows
- Built-in RAG supporting embedding models like Qwen3 (setup instructions included)
- A standalone alternative to NPX Supergateway
- Image editing via ComfyUI with automatic binding detection for major image models
It remains lightweight, avoiding the bloat the author set out to escape.
