VType Linux runs WeChat's official Android IME engine in Fcitx5 with cross-device sync
lxfater · x · 2026-10-12
Open-source project VType Linux brings the official WeChat Input Method Android engine into Fcitx5, giving Linux users the same Chinese typing experience as on mobile.
Key features:
- Official engine with whole-sentence input, out-of-order and neighbor-key error correction, emoji and kaomoji candidates
- Cloud candidates and trending words supplied by WeChat's backend
- Two-way sync of personal dictionary with phone/Mac, plus frequent phrases and mixed-case typing
The repo recommends installing via coding agents like Codex or Claude Code: paste the provided prompt and the agent checks the environment, builds, installs, enables the IME, and runs self-checks, pausing for a six-digit pairing code when linking a phone. Licensed under GPL-3.0.
