Week 11 of a solo AI-built fishing game: ~$800 total spend and a manager-session workflow

A solo dev shares week 11 of building fishing game Nightshoal with AI: a new prologue with its own scene, a trailer on a new YouTube channel, free on Itch, and waiting on Steam identity verification to open a store page.

Tool stack ($800 total): Opus 5.5 for everything from coding onward (skipped renewing Codex Astra this month, though Opus's island map assets were subpar); ElevenLabs for SFX, OpenAI API for images, TripoAI for characters and complex models, Blender MCP for simple 3D models (houses, trees), Stable Audio for music.

Workflow highlights: decisions tracked in .md files — the key decisions.md tags every decision [USER] or [AI] with user decisions always winning priority, which also counters AI hallucinations that gaslight you into fake decisions. Work is split into per-system sessions (fishing, quests, shaders…) plus a "Manager" session that dispatches to the others, drastically reducing context compaction and letting each session run at a fitting effort tier.

Inspirations include Dredge, Creatures of the Deep, Bioshock (moral dilemmas, 3 endings), and WoW (boat progression, leveling, quests).
