Ben Todd rebuts philosophers' EA critique: almost no one called FTX a fraud beforehand
ben_j_todd · x · 2026-10-12
EA scholar Ben Todd pushes back on another "embarrassingly bad" philosophical critique of effective altruism, rebutting points like "use good judgement on AI risk," dismissing GiveWell's hundreds of thousands of lives saved over isolated anecdotes, and "common sense over numbers." He also argues the "they were fooled by SBF" attack is too simple: leading VCs, financial media, world leaders and celebrities all fawned over FTX, and basically no one was on paper calling it a fraud before collapse.
