Steve_Yegge · x · 2026-10-12
Well-known tech blogger Steve Yegge posted that anyone still writing code by hand in an IDE today is doing it "to be contrarian." The quoted tweet recalls that almost exactly a year ago, at the AI Engineer conference, he said engineers still using IDEs in 2026 would be bad engineers — a claim that seemed nuts at the time. In just twelve months, attitudes toward AI coding tools replacing manual coding have shifted dramatically.
