"Flash" isn't fast anymore: new Flash-tier models deliver only ~50tps
TheAIPU-guy · reddit · 2026-10-12
A Reddit user argues the "Flash" naming has lost its meaning. Google popularized it with Gemini 1.5 Flash in May 2024 as its "lightweight model for speed and efficiency," serving up to 200tps as the fastest Gemini in the API. But current Flash-tier models fall far short — Z.ai's Flash manages only 50tps or less. Quality may be excellent, the author concedes, but the "flash" is gone.
