GamePause: open-source tray app auto-unloads local LLMs when gaming, frees 17.4GB VRAM
zainfear · reddit · 2026-10-12
A Reddit dev open-sourced GamePause, a lightweight Rust Windows tray app that detects game launches (Steam/Epic/GOG), unloads LM Studio/Ollama models to free VRAM, and restores them afterward. Works at the model-server level, transparent to chat UIs, coding assistants, and agents. Per-game rules, manual controls, crash recovery; local-only, no telemetry, MIT licensed. Screenshot shows 17.4GB freed.
