When self-hosting GPUs beats buying tokens: the checklist you must pass first
zainhas · x · 2026-10-12
A developer lays out the conditions under which owning or long-term renting GPUs makes sense over buying tokens: enough capital for long-term rental or outright purchase, in-house systems engineering expertise, deep understanding of your workload, keeping up with model architecture shifts every two weeks and hardware cycles every two years. Only if you can extract enough tokens per GPU on that basis is self-hosting worth it.
