"AI models aren't sentient — they're statistical calculators," developer argues in viral thread
AlexTensor · x · 2026-10-12
Responding to ongoing debates about AI consciousness, a developer argues models are not alive, conscious, or autonomous: prompts are broken into tokens, compared against transformer parameters, and responses chosen by statistical algorithms — at no point does the model "understand" anything. The illusion of consciousness comes entirely from user projection, fueled by a poor understanding of how these systems actually work.
