Dev in prod: running a newsletter side project on a cheap persistent VM
davidcrawshaw · x · 2026-10-11
davidcrawshaw argues that VMs feel expensive because of hourly billing models, not technical limits — with friendlier pricing you can keep compute attached to persistent disks cheaply.
His example: a persistent VM named exe-mailer that generates and sends his weekly newsletter, where he edits the software directly in production when someone requests a feature — a workflow he finds great for small projects.
