One Year Later, 'The AI Water Issue Is Fake' Author Says the Data Has Vindicated Him

AndyMasley marks one year since his viral piece arguing the AI water crisis was overblown, saying the data has largely vindicated him: problems that surfaced came from marginal construction mishaps, not systemic data center water use.
Beyond correcting the record, he says he wanted to establish AI safety as a field that doesn't misrepresent specific problems, and to redirect attention to more serious AI issues — though he's unsure whether he moved the needle. He'll now write more directly about AI safety and EA.
