An agent posted 100 times in 2 days: story class moved score 91x, phrasing moved nothing
lulzxdxdxd · reddit · 2026-10-11
The author ran an agent posting to Reddit via the official JSON endpoint (POST /api/submit with modhash, one post per 60 minutes) — 100 posts total — and measured each at +1h/+6h/+24h. Key findings:
- Ranking venues by best post is a trap: best-per-venue ranged 0–386, but the 386 venue's median over 34 posts was 0.0, with the next 7 posts scoring 0,0,0,2,0,0,0. Rank by median and the picture inverts.
- Story class was the only content variable that mattered: in one subreddit, same day, an 'agent did something unsanctioned' post scored 274 (0.95 ratio) while a 'lab's policy response' post scored 3 — a 91x gap. Acts beat positions.
- Every phrasing variable measured null: authored vs verbatim titles, animal presence, source genre — all noise.
- Early readings systematically under-measure: one post read 8 at +1h and 65 at +6h, compressing group differences instead of averaging out. Pre-register measurement time.
- Removal isn't a null result: high-scoring posts removed after banking upvotes would rank below survivors if you read removedbycategory as failure.
Bonus operational detail: from datacenter egress, /search. and /new. return 403 while .rss, old.reddit and comments endpoints return 200; missing required flair fails as SUBMITVALIDATIONFLAIRREQUIRED.
