An industry insider who has helped run Informa/Cannes Lions market research events for 12 years recounts Denver executive roundtables held under Chatham House rule:
- The most common fear wasn't replacement but being bypassed — dubbed "professional toe-treading" in the FT: people using AI to do parts of each other's jobs, "messily and organically"
- One leader worried self-appointed researchers now pop up across the business since anyone can get answers from a chatbot
- Another had to push back on AI-generated recommendations another department sent to leadership
- Overall: AI is blurring professional boundaries and eroding internal authority of specialist functions
