"AI is sophisticated search": dev argues model outputs trace back to uncredited authors
gerardsans · x · 2026-10-10
Developer gerardsans argues that when an AI hands you a recipe, it didn't learn to cook — the content came from a blog or cookbook whose author was stripped away, and like web search it could be traced back. He notes many seemingly novel AI combinations live in the tail of the distribution, while popular queries return content with known authors; labs have little incentive to recover provenance due to lawsuits and the devalued perception once you realize AI is "sophisticated search."
